Apple Watch activity rings explained

What the Move, Exercise, and Stand rings mean and how they affect competition scores.

Move ring

The Move ring tracks active calories. Every workout, walk, or active burst nudges it upward.

Exercise ring

The Exercise ring tracks minutes of brisk activity. The goal is 30 minutes by default, but you can customize it in the Fitness app.

Stand ring

The Stand ring closes when you stand and move for at least one minute in 12 different hours.

Why rings matter for competitions

Each closed ring adds points to your competition score. When everyone in your group closes their rings, the leaderboard gets exciting fast.
